PKB’s activities added

The next year 28th Bali Arts Festival (PKB) will be improved and renewed, particularly its month-long activities. “The activities of PKB are going to be made six without changing the essence and goal of the “27 year-old” arts fiesta,” said Drs I Wayan Geriya of executive committee of workshop for preparation of the 28th PKB, not long ago here.
The all this time five activities held encompass a cultural parade, performances, competitions, discussions, and exhibitions of products by small and medium industries.
“Beginning next year, those five activities will be made better with the presence of a section having specialization in documentations, recording all the doings as an attempt to dig, develop, and preserve Bali’s arts and cultures,” he said.

A working commission under the coordination of Bali’s Cultural Authority has managed to decide the themes of PKB for five year (2006-2010).
The themes discussed and approved suit to text and context analysis. For PKB in 2006, it will bring the theme “Swabawaning Hidup”, Membangkitkan Keluhuran Budi or Waking up Moral Values based on Sutasoma book text.

The Sutasoma book (containing songs) explains that after the Hindu Kreta and Dwapara age are over then Kali age comes, an era where many chaotic things occur.
“Kala as an evil force makes humankinds as small worlds (micro cosmoses) and the universe as a big world (macro cosmos) angry, which then triggers riots, disputes, and natural disasters,” said Geriya, who is a former lecturer at Faculty of Letters of Udayana Unversity.
Indonesian residents, especially Bali’s, contextually to this regard, has passed various disasters, chaos, and has completed local elections resulting in new local governments.
Post “Kala” (era/time) in accordance to the 27th PKB’s theme, it is expected that new rays will emerge or at least one ideal to better future is materialized based moralities.
Through art-cultural festivities, moralities were highly possible to be freshened again, by evoking the good sides of humankinds from people’s feelings, commented Wayan Geriya. *pry/ant
